Re: When were you happiest as a fan?
No fly's on me picking that wonderful day .

But I have to say in 2006 because of the length of time of West ham not winning anything and having my Children next to me I would probably have surpassed the great feeling that 8 year old boy back in 1980 had had by a long chalk, because I would have celebrated with my kids and that is in my mind a different level of happiness, but sadly it was not to be, although it was a better time to win it in my mind when they did as the FA cup meant so much and the respect you got for winning it was far more than it is now .

Too young to have seen us win anything, but 1990 - 2000 was when I went to lots of games and was still in love with the game of football as a whole.

If I survive to 2096, any excitement will kill me.

So, thanks for the warning, yogib.

Re: When were you happiest as a fan?
I was a big fan of The Bish so even though we had a workmanlike up and down team at the time he was the jewel in our crown. I lost count of the number of stunning defence splitting balls he used to play to the forwards but they were too limited to read them. Morley did his best, bless him but they were lean times.

Bish loved football - in the post modern game he would have been revered as a Pirlo type player but he wasn't arrogant or pushy - the man was just grateful to be playing football.

75, went to all the Cup run games including the Final, except Swindon and Ipswich away. Highlight was the quarter final win at Highbury where we took over most of the ground.

The other match that will stand in the memory was the 75 home 2-1 win over Man Utd and the Red Army being greeted by what seemed like all the dockers in the East End in retribution for 67.

Nothing could beat living in London as a teenager in the 60's

The great years of Moore Hurst Peters Budgie Byrne Sissons & Redknapp. Same team every week, no subs nonsense

No injuries, players would only come off if they had broken a leg

Huge optimism for the future winning the cup, the ECWC, & having the backbone of the World Cup winning team playing stylish football that everyone admired

What could possibly go wrong?

Ditto Hairy, really felt us against the world.

Had Marlon, not got cramp and that Argie defender not passed the ball back 2012 would be up there.

Slaters goal against Everton from the North Bank was joy.

England winning something might crack a smile...

Re: When were you happiest as a fan?
My happiest memory was the 89th minute of the FA Cup final in 2006. My lowest moment was a minute later.

I really thought I was finally going to witness us winning a trophy for the first time.
Sadly the wait goes on.

Era wise I would say the 97-2000 era under Redknapp. We were so strong at home, had the best academy in the country and had some great characters in that side. One week we would tear the best sides apart and the next we would lose 4 nil at home to Sheff Wednesday.
Great times.

Re: When were you happiest as a fan?
West Ham have been my team since the Cup Final in 1964 when Ronnie Boyce (whom my Dad had taught at school) scored the winner. I was 11 then, and during the World Cup glory years I just assumed that West Ham were the best club team ever, as well as being local.
Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst both sent their kids to my Mum's nursery school, where I met them both. Trevor Brooking was in the same school class as the son of my Mum's friend.
Having said all that, my happiest time as a fan was in the mid 80s which followed a period when I had doubted (rightly, as it turned out) that we would never win anything meaningful again. To see Cottee, Ward, McAvennie etc. taking bigger teams apart with joy was a bigger buzz than the successes in the 60s and 70s.

Re: When were you happiest as a fan?
On a beautiful sunny day in 1980, we won the FA cup and I was a kid who was constantly chided by other kids and told that West ham were shit, when I went to school or to the park after that brilliant day life was never the same, i felt 10 feet tall So for a good two or three years after I enjoyed being West ham fan most .

It is sad that they never won anything after that but at least I got that feeling, in 1975 I was too small to understand.

Re: When were you happiest as a fan?
Probably when I was a kid, less to worry about, but maybe the same could be said for everything in life!

As an adult I would say probably the Hartson and Di Canio eras. Loved big John up front. At that time we had some great youngsters in the team and coming through, and goalscorers up front. Back then I went into every game really believing that we could beat anyone, if we were on our game.

Re: When were you happiest as a fan?
82 until 86 was my favourite as football was the only thing i was bothered about after chasing the fanny and everything about West Ham was hopeful at the start of the season but not overly expectant.

I actually really enjoyed the months after we bought Ashton in the January of that season for some reason.

Re: When were you happiest as a fan?
2015/6.

I started following WHU in 1966 approximately 10 minutes after we won the WC. After that, I was sold.

In today's world I can watch every single game live. I live in the US and NBC will show /stream all PL games, so staying connected is guaranteed. The lad and I fly to England twice a year to watch live games and it's an exciting thing to share with a 14 year old.

Why 2015/6? We'd wake up here, 20 minutes from DC, and there wouldn't just be a game on at 10am, but we'd play Chelsea or Liverpool and the chances are they were going to get a good rogering. That was the year none of the top 6 won at UP. The ground was a bear pit and our pouty fucking Frenchman did a passable impersonation of PDC.

Just pure excitement.
